Every Syracuse student, faculty and staff member has access to the same four University-approved AI tools, so the question is which one fits the job in front of you. Clementine is Syracuse's own AI platform for building personalized agents that answer from material you upload, reached at mentor.ai.syr.edu; Claude Enterprise is a general-purpose assistant with three modes - Chat for everyday work, Cowork for multi-step tasks, and Code for working inside a codebase. Copilot is best when the work already lives in Microsoft 365, and Gemini brings guided learning, image generation and notebooks. Whichever you pick, sign in with your NetID and keep University data in approved tools only - if you need help choosing, reach out to aihelp@syr.edu.
Which SU AI tool should I use?
Overview
Syracuse gives every student, faculty and staff member access to four University-approved AI tools, all reachable with your NetID. The guidance from ITS is to stop asking which model is "best" and match the tool to the task. Reach for Clementine to build a course-grounded agent that answers from your own material, Claude Enterprise for everyday chat plus multi-step (Cowork) and in-codebase (Code) work, Microsoft Copilot when the work already lives in Microsoft 365, and Google Gemini for guided learning, image generation and notebooks. If you are still unsure, email aihelp@syr.edu.
Steps
Start with the task, not the model - decide what you are actually trying to produce.
Building a tutor or FAQ agent grounded in your course materials, with citations back to the source? Use Clementine, Syracuse's own AI platform (mentor.ai.syr.edu).
Everyday questions, drafting, summarizing, multi-step work or work inside a codebase? Use Claude Enterprise (Chat, Cowork and Code).
Work that already lives in your Microsoft 365 apps? Use Microsoft Copilot.
Guided learning, image generation or notebooks? Use Google Gemini.
Sign in with your NetID or Syracuse email, and keep University data in these approved tools only.
