API access and usage limits are the two most common "power user" questions. How do I get Claude API access, and what are the usage limits?
Overview
The University's standard Claude Enterprise license does not include a direct Anthropic API key - that is a separate product. Programmatic use and Claude Code are tied to a Claude Premium seat, which faculty and staff can purchase with department funds. If you hit your session/usage limit on the standard license, it resets on a cycle; for consistently higher limits, upgrade to Premium. API provisioning for the SU environment has been evolving, so contact aihelp@syr.edu for the current process.
